Support for visually impaired and Deaf people

If you are blind, partially sighted, Deaf, or have hearing loss, we can support you to live independently.

Our sensory team

Our sensory team can help you manage day-to-day life at home and in the community.

We can:

  • advise on equipment and helpful technology

  • help you feel confident with everyday tasks and getting around

  • put you in touch with other services when needed

Support for visually impaired people

We can provide

  • advice on equipment and changes to your home

  • training to move around safely indoors and outdoors

  • support to help you develop practical travel skills, like using a long cane, planning routes, and moving safely on stairs and escalators.

Support for Deaf people

We can offer:

  • advice on equipment and accessible software

  • specialised support from our Deaf social worker and hearing impairment support officers.

What we cannot do

We cannot give medical advice or treatment, or provide hearing aids or glasses.

Contact adult social care using British Sign Language (BSL)

If you use BSL, you can contact us using Convo Now. It is a video relay service with a qualified interpreter.

How to use Convo Now

  1. Download Convo Now on a phone, tablet or computer.

  2. In the app, find Lancashire County Council in the Community Directory.

  3. Start the call. The interpreter will help and connect you to the right team.

  4. To get a call back, share your Convo number from the app.

Some reception areas have a Convo Access QR code you can scan to use an interpreter (no app needed.)

You can read more about Convo Now on the website.
