JACKSON, Joyce
|
Mrs Joyce JACKSON was living with dementia when she collapsed in her care home on the 26 May 2024. She was taken to hospital where an x ray was undertaken which did not show that she was suffering from a fractured neck of femur. She was experiencing delirium which was not fully recognised in the emergency department and she was discharged home with a plan to mobilise her. There was a missed opportunity to return Mrs JACKSON to the hospital the following day and consequently there was a delay in diagnosing the fracture until the 1 June 2024. She underwent surgery on the 3 June 2024 following which, Mrs JACKSON suffered from hypoactive delirium. She did not recover and died on the 16 July 2024 in Blackburn Hospital from hypoactive delirium caused by the fractured neck of femur which had been operated on. It is not possible to determine whether the delay in recognising the fracture contributed to her death.
